The top navigation bar in the Moodle header is fixed and always appears no matter where you are in Moodle. It can always be used to go to the home page, dashboard or course overview (see also Moodle start area).

At the top of each course and activity is a tab. The first five tabs contain the most frequently needed functions. All other functions can be found in the More tab.

In some tabs there are submenus. These can usually be accessed via a drop down menu at the top left of the tab.

A course index is automatically generated in the left column of the course. Here you can directly switch to the corresponding sections, activities and materials by clicking on them. You can collapse the index via the X symbol on the left above the course index (Close course index) or expand it again via the symbol with the three lines (Open course index) on the top left of the course.

Using the arrow icons to the left of the section names (Collapse or Expand), you can expand and collapse sections both in the course index and in the main area of the course. In the main area of the course you will find the link Collapse all or Expand all in the upper right corner. This allows you to expand or collapse all sections at once.

To access an activity or resource, click on its name or icon either in the index or in the main course area.

Within activities (and other functional areas of the course) you will find a navigation path that allows you to navigate back to the parent course areas. At the bottom of activities, it is possible to scroll directly to the previous or next course element (activity or resource). To do this, click on the name of these elements displayed on the left or right below. Using the drop down menu in the middle, you can navigate directly from an activity to all activities and resources in the course.
