Unraveling Odor Perception with E3 Equivariant Graph Neural Networks Through Self-Supervised Learning

About the speaker

Oliver Wieder began his career as a software developer at Inte:Ligand GmbH in Vienna after graduating with distinction in 2016. He worked there until 2018 before starting a Ph.D. program focused on AI for drug discovery, in partnership with Laboratoires Servier and Inte:Ligand. In 2020, Oliver joined Biolyz, co-founding it in mid-2021 and serving as CTO until 2022, then shifting to a Senior AI Engineer role - a position he has held ever since. He completed his Ph.D. with distinction in April 2022 and became a Senior Post-Doc at the Christian-Doppler Laboratory, collaborating with BASF SE and Boehringer Ingelheim RCV since July 2022. Oliver is also a reviewer for leading scientific journals and teaches at the University of Vienna in the area of Large Language Models and other deep-learning applications.

About the speaker

Christian J. Binder embarked on his academic journey at the Higher School (HTL) for Informatics, honing his skills from 2000 to 2006, before securing a BSc in Bioengineering and Bioinformatics from FH Campus Wien in 2015. Currently, he is finalizing his MSc in Computational Science at the University of Vienna, where he specializes in data mining, machine learning, and the computational aspects of biology and chemistry. Since 2007, Christian has applied his expertise in software engineering across various roles, turning freelance in 2018. He also shares his knowledge as a lecturer in C++ programming for bioinformatics at FH Campus Wien since 2019. Presently, Christian is dedicating his efforts to his master's thesis within the Cheminformatics group at the University of Vienna's Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences. His research is centered on the innovative "odor-map" project, aiming to decode the complexities of odor perception through computational models.

About the speaker

Martin Gasteiner is a historian specialising in digital humanities, media history and the technological development of the early modern period. His work at the Vienna University Library involves supporting research projects along the data life cycle – from object modelling and publishing to preservation and re-use. He is responsible for the management of UNIDAM in the area of repository management PHAIDRA services and deals with the enrichment of research data. He runs the Research Library Podcast (rlp.univie.ac.at) for the Vienna University Library and produces the podcast "Kultur-denken" for the IFK Vienna.

Bernhard Scheid is a Japanologist with a research focus on Japanese religious history, in particular the history of the Shintō. The digital handbook Religion-in-Japan was created in 2001 as a teaching tool for his lectures at the University of Vienna, but is constantly being expanded as part of his work at the Austrian Academy of Sciences.

Raman Ganguly is head of the IT Support for Research department at the ZID. With a strong software development and media technology background, he has been actively involved in digital data archiving since 2011. He mainly focuses on design and technical models for data preservation. Additionally, he leads the development of Phaidra, along with other open-source projects aimed at data preservation. At the University of Vienna, Raman oversees the creation and operation of systems to preserve data from research and education long-term. Alongside this, he has contributed to various local and international projects, aiming to enhance research data infrastructure.
