About the speaker

After finishing his Ph.D Barbara Borgers holds a Hertha Firnberg Fellowship at the Faculty Department of Physics, Clemens Mangler started as senior scientist at the workgroup “Physics of Nanostructured Materials”. Since 2013 he is taking care of the group's flagship scanning transmission electron microscope and its ever growing ultra-high vacuum system. When he is not busy with the microscope, he is working on improving the group's IT systems.Classical Archaeology, University of Vienna. As a ceramic scientist, she has worked in various interdisciplinary research projects of heritage communities, museums, and commercial archaeology companies across Europe, and she is currently the PI of the project ‘Cooking ware as Indicator for Regional Trade and Exchange in 4th-1st c. BC Central Italy’.

Markus Stöhr

Beate Pamperl has been working at the University of Vienna since 2007. She began as an IT representative at the Department of History and developed databases and interfaces for numerous research projects in the field of Digital Humanities. Today, she serves as the IT coordinator of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies, digitalization officer, and deputy faculty manager.

About the speaker

Markus Stöhr has been involved in high-performance computing since 2004 and has been working for BOKU University at the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC) supercomputing centre since 2011. He computed his doctoral thesis on the VSC-1, a very old generation of supercomputers. Today, the VSC-5 provides 65 times more computing power. Markus has been head of EuroCC Austria, the national HPC competence centre that facilitates access to high-performance computing, AI and big data, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises and start-ups, since 2020.

Peter Rauscher is a historian specialising in early modern financial, administrative, and economic history, as well as Jewish history, particularly in the Holy Roman Empire and the Habsburg Monarchy. Since 2005, he has been a lecturer in modern history and became a Senior Scientist at the University of Vienna in 2024. He has been PI of the project cluster “The Danube trabe. Sources on Austrian Economic History (17th/18th Centuries)” since 2010.

About the speakerJan Zabloudil

Andrea Serles studied physics History at the TU Wien, where he also completed his dissertation and worked as a postdoc. That was around the turn of the millennium. In 2009, Austria’s current supercomputer, the Vienna Scientific Cluster (VSC), was put into operation in Vienna for the first time and Jan was one of the first employees to look after the computer as a system administrator. The team has now grown to 17 people and Jan supports them as Senior System Administrator and Team Coordinator.University of Vienna, where she holds the position of a research assistant since 2013. The main focus of her scientific work is the online edition of sources related to the Danube trade in early modern times. Apart from history of trade Mrs. Serles’ research interests cover the history of public finance and infrastructure as well as town and regional history. Since January 2025, she is the co-editor of the volumes on the 16th and 17th centuries in the series "History of Lower Austria”.

Fabian Jusufi is a staff member of Coordination Digital Transformation at Zentraler Informatikdienst. He is cloud administrator of the public cloud platforms Microsoft Azure and AWS at the University of Vienna.

Raman Ganguly is head of the IT Support for Research department at the ZID. With a strong software development and media technology background, he has been actively involved in digital data archiving since 2011. He mainly focuses on design and technical models for data preservation. Additionally, he leads the development of Phaidra, along with other open-source projects aimed at data preservation. At the University of Vienna, Raman oversees the creation and operation of systems to preserve data from research and education long-term. Alongside this, he has contributed to various local and international projects, aiming to enhance research data infrastructure.
