Some programs need to communicate with the universities licensing server to function:

• the computer needs an ip address for the department LAN or it cannot connect to it and consequently the licensing server
• send the computer name / the MAC address to the departments tech support
• the tech support will configure the ip address
• after the computer connects successfully to the LAN
• start the software you wish to license
• follow the explicit licensing instructions for the specific software
• in this process you will most likely be asked to fill in the data for the licensing server
• plus a serial or licensing number
• plus - maybe - a specific license key for this installation
